Heckedy Peg almost ate my Finn!

Finn’s class put on a production of Heckedy Peg at school for Mother’s Day.  I had not heard of this story before, so I’ll give you a little recap.

“The poor mother of seven children, each named for a day of the week, goes off to market promising to return with individual gifts that each child has requested and admonishing them to lock the door to strangers and not to touch the fire. The gullible children are tricked into disobeying their mother by the witch, Heckedy Peg, who turns them all into various kinds of food. The mother can rescue her children only by guessing which child is the fish, the roast rib, the bread, etc., a trick she neatly performs by matching each kind of food with the gift that each child had requested.”

Mr. Laird had contacted us about our role in the play as well as requested what our child’s favorite food was.  The room was all set up for a mother’s luncheon with a tablecloth, flowers and yummy food on the table and classical music playing in the background.  Cuteness ensued!

Thankfully I was able to save my Finn from being eaten by Heckedy Peg, knowing that his favorite food was Mac N Cheese!

The children all then presented us with scrolls they created all by themselves…..Finn’s says “I love mommy like a house!”  Ha!  And as Ahleia’s mommy said “Well, at least he didn’t say a brick house!”!  HA!  We all enjoyed some punch and yummy food and hung out with our little ones before it was time for Spanish!  And we each got a beautiful rose to take with us!  So much sweetness!  Finn was so excited for this day for about a week leading up to it.  He was so good about keeping the secret and just couldn’t wait to share it with me!

Here is Heckedy Peg tricky the children into letting him in the house and subsequently turning the children to food….

And here is Reese’s momma saving him from the witch!

I wish I could say that it got pretty heated with all the mommas fighting over each other to save their wee beasties from the evil witch first, but we were polite and took our turns!  ;)
