Strep

So when we took Finn in for his 3yr checkup they mentioned he had a double ear infection, so we started a round of antibiotics.  9 days later Finn says his tummy hurts and he has a fever….head back into the doctor….he has strep.  Turns out that a “hurt tummy” is a symptom of strep!  No clue.  And we felt even worse because he had mentioned his tummy hurt a day or two before.  So a new round of stronger antibiotic is started.  And our isolation begins with a Cars movie viewing…..with all of Finn’s friends.

Chubby cheeks and eyelashes

I just love this face.  I love his chubby cheeks, his round button nose, his big puffy lips and his long eyelashes.  I love to watch him inspect/explore/study something.  I love this angle of his face.  I love this boy.

I wish I knew how to take a decent photo, but this is the best I got out of the 25 I took.

How fitting is his name?

I’ve said this before, he is the next Michael Phelps.  Mr.  Finn had “swim lessons” when he was 17 months old, and I use that term loosely.  But this summer he just started swimming, all on his own.  He jumps in, keeps his head under water and starts pumping his arms and legs.  I am amazed.  And proud.  What a big brave boy I have!

And this one because I think he’s cute how he’s trying to find me!

And these pics a friend took at a birthday party….

Gecko’s!

The Fernbank Museum is having an awesome exhibit with Gecko’s right now.  After our experience with frogs I don’t know why I thought this was a good idea, but I evidently have short-term memory.  Suffice it to say, this visit did not go well, at least in the Gecko exhibit portion where Finn was SCREAMING to leave.

A very bad picture of a gecko

I took this picture AFTER we left the exhibit and notice that Finn is clinging to the stroller.

Riley doesn’t have a good track record with his head…..but evidently this was a hiking accident…..poor little man!

Shoe Fashion Show

I think I’ve got like a thousand pictures of Finn wearing my shoes, he LOVES shoes.  He gets excited when we buy him new shoes, he gets excited when we buy ourselves new shoes, he just loves shoes.  I’ve got my shoes in baskets in my closet and the boys love to pull them out and play.  But this time BOTH boys tried on like almost every single one of my pairs of shoes.  I wish I had gotten some video of Riley trying to get the shoes on his fat little feet because it really was SO funny, but instead I laughed and helped and laughed and eventually just got a few pictures instead.  I will leave you with these awesome pictures!  (yes, I have a lot of red shoes…)

A story from daddy

Daddy took the boys hiking the other afternoon and he sent me this story to share.  Grab a hanky.

We were backpacking with Grandma (bear) in Finn's backpack, Riley in mine.  A while up the mountain, Grandma was getting heavy, so Finn started to carry her instead, finally she got too heavy, so he had me carry her.  Then when some 8 year old boys were coming down the mountain, Finn got excited & asked for Grandma back, he said he wanted to show her to them.  As each one walked by, with a smile from ear to ear, Finn excitedly made Grandma wave to them as they passed - each time they did not acknowledge Grandma or Finn.  Finn was confused after the first couple went by and asked me why they weren't saying hi to Grandma, then asked me each time after another passed "why aren't they saying hi to Grandma?"  I told him that maybe they didn't see her & suggested he have Grandma wave to the daddy in the back, thankfully he did said hello back.

It almost made me cry as I watched Finn, knowing that his innocence & imagination would soon start to slip away as he become aware of what was "cool".

Water Baby

I just wanted to show Riley’s new sun hat.  He has always HATED wearing hats.  But I found this hat on super sale while in BRU, picked it up, put it on his head and he kept it on in the entire store so I bought it and he hasn’t disappointed and likes wearing this hat!  Yay!  He’s so stinking cute I had to share!

Big Boy Riley!

Finn sits in a booster seat in a chair at the table but during snack time I let him sit in my chair at the table and lately I’ve been letting Riley sit in Finn’s booster during snack time.  We decided it was time that Riley got a place at the table.  GAH!  I cannot stand this cuteness!  And Riley is so freaking excited to be at the table!

Finn drinking the milk from his cereal.  Seriously we didn’t teach him this, neither one of us do this…its innate I guess!

and a video of Riley feeding himself!

We miss you grandma and papa!

We had such a great visit with grandma and papa, they came in on Thursday and stayed until Tuesday morning.  Finn and Riley both are missing them terribly!  But we took this uber cute picture before they left, even though we had a hard time getting Finn to get in the picture because he was so sad they were leaving.  :(

IMG_5793

We love you and we miss you so much!

Finn’s 3 year stats!

I took Finn in for his 3 year old check-up and since grandma and papa were in town, they stayed home with Riley and I got to take Finn in all by himself!

He stood on the scale like a big boy!

Waiting for Miss Marietta to come in!

IMG_5789

He also had an eye exam, but no pictures. :(  He passed all of the “tests” and is developmentally doing good.  He even showed off a little when she asked him to jump and he started jumping on one foot (something that he has been obsessed with practicing lately!)!  So cute!

Height:  39 1/8 inches, 85%
Weight:  35 pounds, 80%

Such a big boy!

Opening Presents

Opening his first gift

And playing with his favorite present….

IMG_5780

So once he started ripping into the first gift, I took one picture and then switched to video because I just had to see his reaction!  I am so freaking glad I did because the reactions are just priceless.

Mack Truck, this is the first thing he opened and the thing he has barely let out of his sight since he opened it!  We have a friend who has this and he has talked about it every since he first laid eyes on it.

Baseball Tee!

Luigi and Guido (Finn has this fascination of wheels being broken and lately has said that all of his cars wheels are broken and we need Luigi and Guido…how can you fight that logic?)

Cars Movie:  he has absolutely no idea what he is opening, he’s just calling out names of the cars he can see on the movie and then when he gets it open he has no idea (or interest) in the fact that it is the movie.  He has now watched it 10K times so he’s definitely excited he got it, but I love the reaction to this one versus the others.

Finn Sized Scissors!

Soccer ball

And I had a video of him opening his water table but I have no idea what happened to it.  :(

Lightening McFinn Turns 03!!!!

Finn is in LOVE with Lightening McQueen (and Sally and Mater and Doc and Sheriff and Luigi and Guido….).  So I just knew we had to do a Cars theme for his birthday!  The internet is an amazing thing that helped me come up with some awesome ideas!

First I found these “ticket” invitations online:

McFinn2

And made these address labels!

McFinnLabel2

And I made Finn a shirt for the day!

IMG_5757

One thing about the internet though, was that it provided a lot of ideas but without any pictures or how-to’s, so I had to get creative.

Race Cars:  I started with these (thank you Mr. Josh!):

IMG_5702

Cut out the bottom, cut some holes in the sides for handles and then painted them white:

IMG_5710

And then since my painting skills really don’t extend beyond that, I designed the numbers and wheels on my computer, printed them out, cut them and glued them to the boxes and then used red cardstock for tail lights and yellow cardstock for headlights!

 IMG_5712 IMG_5713IMG_5715

Race Track:  We needed a race track for the cars to race around, so we got some of the giant paint stirrer sticks from Lowe’s and Home Depot (turns out they don’t really like to hand out 12 of them to one customer, hence the multiple visits to multiple stores), bought some crepe streamers and some balloons, stuck the sticks in the ground, wrapped the streamer around and topped off with balloons!

IMG_5748

It was a family affair!

IMG_5725

Drivers Licenses:  The kids needed a license to drive those cars!

IMG_5764

Lakes Motor Speedway Sign (the sign was attached to some small paint stirrer sticks (that HD/Lowe’s isn’t too stingy with) and was supposed to be pushed down into the ground….well, the ground was VERY hard and we couldn’t push it in, so ghetto style, we taped it around a tree, ha!)

IMG_5744 IMG_5724

I also found this awesome idea for decorations and decided to give it a try with Black and White cardstock to look like a checkered flag.  I hung 3 in the kitchen above the table and 3 outside from the trees above the deck!  I’ve got to say, sewing paper was a first for me, but this was beyond easy!

IMG_5709IMG_5747

Pennants:  So, turns out it is almost impossible to find black and white checkered pennant flags….So after much searching I FINALLY found some black and white checkered fabric and decided to make my own!  I bought enough that I could also use it as a table runner on the back table (shown above) and on the cupcake table.  I made two table runners and 150 individual pennants….cut them all out and then glued them to some ribbon for hanging, even made four to put Finn’s name on to hang.  I hung them all over the back deck, over the front porch entrance and even a few in the kitchen.

IMG_5730

IMG_5751 IMG_5755

Cupcakes!  I made my own cupcake toppers.  I designed them on my computer, printed them out, cut them out, bought some lollipop sticks and used the glue gun to glue them together!

 IMG_5727 IMG_5729 IMG_5735

I can’t tell you how excited I was to decorate the house and for Finn to see everything and for all our friends to come over and play!  Seriously, I was giddy with excitement!  I didn’t take a single picture during the party, but grandma took a few!
