Hat Day

We only watch 1/2 hour to an hour of TV a day, and we watch PBS Kids, typically while I am feeding Riley in the morning, so we usually watch Sesame Street.  Now I know I’m knew to Sesame Street, well at least after a 30 year hiatus, but in the last three months I have seen the episode of “How Many Hats Can You Wear On Your Head Day” 5 times.  5!  Really?  Considering we don’t watch it every day, I’m wondering how many times it has actually played.  Sorry, that’s been bothering me.  I was having a bad hair day and pulled down the hat bin and Finn just couldn’t help himself.  He pulled one out for himself and one for the baby….

And then he had to switch with the baby

Ocean Wonders

So when we were going on vacation we decided we needed some time of crib soother for Riley for his pack ‘n play since the crib mobile is oddly enough not mobile. All the moms I know are CRAZY about this Ocean Wonders crib soother thing. I’ll tell you what, even Finn is OBSESSED with this thing. Basically it plays some soft lullaby music (actually the much loved wedding music Pachelbel’s canon in D), has little fish that “swim” and bubbles and lights up. It also has a large button on the face of it that baby can hit himself to turn it on….and my boy is a genius because he has figured that out all by himself!

The Finnster

He talks in the third person.  He learned his name a while ago and started talking in the third person then, but it still cracks me up.  Only very recently has he started saying “I” but he still mostly says “Finn” and every now and then he throws in a “Finn Lakes”, gah!

"Finn do it!" "Finn do by self momma" are the two most popular phrases he says these days. This includes climbing into his car seat and an attempt at buckling himself in (don't worry, momma takes over on that part), putting his clothes on, taking his clothes off (and sometimes his diaper too), up/down the stairs, riding his bicycle (until he gets tired then it's "momma help"), brushing his teeth and the list goes on.

When he eats penne pasta, he sticks his fingers into the noodles to eat them.

He knows his ABC's and can count to 10 (actually he also just added 11, 12 and 13!)! Here is a bad video of him saying his ABC's with a mouth full of hot dog. Yes we're teaching him proper etiquette right from the start.

He loves to read and to be read to. "Read stories momma", will always stop me in my tracks, how can anyone say no to that?

Kisses Galore! He's always been a big hugger, he will hug you to death. But he's never been big on the kissing. Until now.....kisses, kisses, kisses! He will smother momma and daddy and baby Riley in kisses, our doggie Cha Cha, his girlfriends McKenna and Maggie, and even his stuffed animals/toys! He even makes a little “pop” sound!  He also says “I love you” now.

He’s obsessed with shoes.  He always has been but it still cracks me up.  I just bought him a new pair of shoes for the fall last week and when I woke up Sunday morning I found him with sitting with daddy in a pajama shirt, a diaper and his new shoes, priceless.

He drinks out of a big boy cup now except when we’re on the go.

He’s been going potty on the potty for a couple of months now.  He does it every night before shower-time and only recently have we started going throughout the day.  Momma isn’t so sure she’s ready to fully go down this path just yet so we’re going along at a snails pace for the time being, but he gets super excited about it and shouts “HEY” every time he pees!

We say a prayer before dinner every night now, momma and daddy will say a line and he repeats it and when we get to the end he gives a big ole Aaaaaa-men, I must get this on video at some point because it is hilarious the inflection he uses!

Grandma and Grandpa

IMG_2861

That’s grandma on the left and grandpa on the right.

So Finn woke up Sunday morning and was walking around saying “Where’s grandpa?” and he’s looking and looking around the house and so I’m trying to tell him that Grandpa is on vacation (not to mention grandpa lives in Indiana so it isn’t like he’s here everyday or anything).  And then he finds this bear and shouts “GRANDPA!!” picks him up and gives him a big hug…..next he picked up another bear and started calling it grandma.  He now walks around the house with grandma and grandpa and snuggles up with them at naptime and bedtime.  It is seriously the cutest, sweetest thing ever, because I just know how much he loves them and now he has them all of the time!

Saturday was the Decatur BBQ Blues and Bluegrass Festival.  We walked on over with Finn and Riley and The Redmond Family!  Besides it being blazing hot, it was very FUN!

Bouncing with Libbie!

Today we met Libbie at Leapin Lizards!

Riley ridin’ in his “new” stroller! This was Finn’s old stroller that I pulled out today because a) Riley is too big to be worn in the bjorn and b) I knew he’d need a nap and this one fully reclines. Of course when I pulled this out, Finn automatically started shouting that this was HIS stroller and he wanted to ride in it…forget he hasn’t ridden in this thing in probably a year!

IMG_2782

Bouncin’! (note to self, don’t use flash when taking pictures through a mesh screen!)

Finn getting fresh…..

IMG_2787

Finn’s hidden talent…..air hockey. Momma would also like to claim the same but daddy is laughing uncontrollably at the mere mention.

IMG_2789

And bye-bye kisses (hey, no funny stuff Libbie, we only just turned 2!)
