Moments like these…..

so precious!  After I put Riley down for bed, I layed down in bed myself and fell asleep while Todd read stories to Finn.  I woke up almost an hour later and found this….

It was so sweet and precious I just sat there and watched them sleep together.  Eventually though I was getting itchy to watch some TV, which I could not do with them sleeping there.  So I had to break the moment.  But I did wait until 9pm, so I gave them plenty of time.  :)

Boiler Up!

I realized this week, that we will be in the hospital while Purdue makes its way to the Final Four and that this baby was going to need to get used to wearing Black & Gold on game days!  And Thanks to our wonderful Miss Jess who bought us these super cute iron-on decals forever ago, I finally made baby a onesie to match a teeny newborn Purdue hat we have!

Breaking News

As a follow-up to the story we reported earlier about Racing Cars, we have an update……

Originally I took Riley to the doctor on Friday morning when he woke up and would not walk on his leg and was crying.  She looked at it and said she didn’t think it was broken, but just to give him Motrin and try to have him “take it easy” and it should get better.  We spent the whole weekend giving him Motrin and helping him around.  He limped around all weekend, and he would still play, but he had troubles climbing and he would get tired/cranky after a while.  By Sunday night I noticed there was just a huge knot on his leg and I just wasn’t feeling right.  So when he woke up Monday morning still crying and limping around I decided to take him back to the doctor.

Of course when we got there and the doctor walked in he went back to his flirting self.  Any time I would touch his leg he would cry.  Any time she would touch his leg he would laugh and giggle and say “more tickle”.  And what else did he do?  Climbed right up the little steps to get onto the table.  Are you kidding me?  But she said she sees that all the time, and referred us to a pediatric orthopedist anyway (the same one we went to for Finn’s broken leg!).

They did an x-ray and the doctor called it a contusion.  He said that he could tell there was new bone growing so that it possibly could have been a slight hairline fracture on Thursday/Friday but that it was healing.  And that he felt that Riley should wear a  boot to protect it while it heals for the next two weeks.  So I give you, the worlds cutest, tiniest little boot ever!

Oh Finn

Finn:  I don’t remember being built momma.
Me:  What do you mean?
Finn:  I don’t remember God building me. (as he’s touching his face all delicately)

*********************************************

Finn:  How do things get dead momma?

*********************************************

While grandpa was reading Berenstain Bears and The Bad Influence:
Grandpa:  do you have a best friend, Finn?
Finn:  Yes!
Grandpa:  Who is your best friend?
Finn:  you and grandma!

{insert heart melting here}

*********************************************

after going to the dentist and getting a new toothbrush, he comes to me and says:

I gave Riley my old toothbrush, since I have a new toothbrush, and the baby can have Riley’s toothbrush.

I mean getting over how gross that is, he was being SO sweet!

*********************************************

Finn takes quiet time while Riley does nap time and I’d say about 50% of the time he ends up falling asleep, and usually when he does he wakes up all confused.  So today I heard him moaning like he was all confused so I got up to go to him and found him in the hallway!

Disco Inferno

During Riley’s birthday party, there was a minor accident with the disco ball.  I ended up buying some new bulbs hoping that would be the fix and I set it up in the kitchen to test it out and a dance party ensued!

This song is Finn’s favorite song!  Its called “All the right moves” but he asks for it by “All the rock stars”.  No matter how many times I try to correct him, he insists it is rock and not right.  Here’s Finn raving to his favorite song!

Racing Cars

Finn has a new very popular phrase and every time he says it I hold my breathe and wait for what is to come.  “I was thinking that…..” and it is always followed by some FUN thing we should do.  But he always puts a long pause in between “that” and his idea, which is what makes me hold my breathe and brace myself…..While it is cute, it can also be tantrum inducing if my response is no.  Lately sometimes he has even been asking me “So, what are you thinking momma?” which I like a little better for the times that I did already have some plans for us.

Yesterday, Finn woke up from his nap, asked me what I was thinking and when I told him I didn’t have a plan he said “well, I was thinking that….we could race cars….in Miss Dawn’s driveway”.    Miss Dawn is our neighbor.  I’m thinking his small cars.  So I’m all, OK.  This is easy.  But no, he’s thinking the BIG plastic cars, the cozy coupe and the other push car.  But then I think, this is still OK.

I’ve never laughed so hard in my life.  We did this for like an hour and a half.  At some point our friends down the street, the Brimmer’s, came to play too.  Seriously hilarious.  Here are some videos I took.  I love their laughter, I love my laughter, I love Finn jumping up and down, I love that this was Finn’s idea, and I love how they both are furiously trying to steer the cars.  Seriously an awesome afternoon!

It was not without incident though.  At some point Riley got ran into by an incoming car and I ended up taking him to the doctor today because he is still limping on the leg and crying a bit.  They don’t think it is broken, so we’re just giving him some motrin and some time to see if it just gets better.  Poor little dude.  Not to worry, we got the Brimmer’s auto insurance information to cover his medical expenses though!  ;)

The Dentist

A big milestone of turning 3 is a visit to the dentist.  For some reason I just wasn’t excited about this milestone so I put it off…until I realized I am going to be in a new baby fog when 4 yrs old rolls around and that I should get on this dentist visit thing pronto.  I may have waited too long.  He may have talked to his friends about this dentist character.  Whatever happened, he wasn’t excited about it from my very first mention of it to him.  He immediately was all “I don’t want to go to the dentist!!!” and he was very adamant about it.  And all I could think was “why, and how, do you know you don’t want to go to the dentist”?  But he stuck to his guns.

Until I told him he would get a new toothbrush and that he could bring grandma bear with him.  Grandma bear is allowed to come in the car with us places but she is never allowed to leave the car.  So this was a big deal.  And the new toothbrush?  He loves brushing his teeth, is obsessed with toothbrushes and toothpaste.  See….why would he not want to go to the dentist?

So the place we went to was crazy huge and there were TONS of people there and it was SO overwhelming even for me.  Thankfully I had the foresight to get a sitter for Riley so I didn’t have to lug him around too, which really would NOT have been possible given what went down there today.

So, they’ve got fun cartoons playing, fun decorations and games and everything.  So things are good.  Until they call us back.  Back where there are so many SCREAMING BLOODY MURDER children.  We walk into a room that has four reclined chairs in the middle where children are getting their teeth cleaned and a bunch of TV’s and things hanging from the ceiling.  And then there are rooms off to every side where the screaming kids are.  Finn immediately clings to me and starts shaking.  They try to take him to a small room right there for x-rays, but since I’m pregnant I have to step away, which I thought maybe would help if I wasn’t there.  WRONG.  x-rays didn’t happen.  next they take us back to a room and I finish the paper work, talk to the nurse a bit, Finn seems to warm up a little until….the.dentist.walks.in.and holy hell, Finn loses his mind.  The dentist is trying to talk to me over wailing Finn…uh huh, come on, let’s just get going here guy, your jibber jabber isn’t helping.

Next up, I get the joy of helping pin my child down in the chair with the nurse while the very brave dentist sticks his hands/fingers into the mouth of a screaming/wailing 3 yr old.  Amazingly the dentist is able to evidently see enough of his teeth to say they look good.  Really?  Next up cleaning….you know out in the middle room where you can hear all the wailing.  He does magically calm down though while we wait for Miss Anna.  But Miss Anna finally comes, calls Finn’s name and more wailing/screaming ensues.  More pinning down my child.  At some point in the middle of the brushing, he does actually calm down and he helps her and he is able to get all of his teeth cleaned!

And look at this picture.  Its like nothing has happened.  “Look how happy I am to visit the dentist!  TWO balloons, coloring book, new toothbrush, floss, a mirror and a sticker!  The dentist is AWESOME mom!!!”

and I need a drink.  I now know what hell is like.  go spend a morning in a pediatric dentist office if you’re curious.

Happy Valentine’s Day!!!

I needed to make something for Valentine’s for Finn’s class at school.  Originally I had an idea a friend had posted on FB, but before I started pulling it together, I stumbled upon another idea that I just had to copy!  LOVE!  And while I was at it, I decided that Riley needed some for some of his girlfriends too!  Eeep!  How cute are these?

Finn’s Grid

This is just for my own records.  It has been bothering me that I don’t have a nerdy grid for Finn like I do for Riley.  When Finn was born we were using a different site that made a grid for me and it was lost when we switched to the blog.  So, I’m making one now!

Age Weight % Height % Head %
Birth 7lbs 10oz   21”
1 week 7lbs 3oz
1 month 10lbs 7oz 50th 22.75” 75th 15” 25th

The beach!

We took our annual trip down to Florida with Grandma and Papa for a week.  The weather wasn’t awesome but we still had a great trip!  The best thing about the boys, they don’t know that it is supposed to be warm and sunny at the beach.  But they’ve got miles of beach to run on and dig in so they were happy clams!  Oh and we had a heated pool to swim in too!  With as good as everyone napped/slept, I’m seriously considering moving to the beach!

Right when we arrived we headed straight to the beach!

P1000395P1000397

Finn set up grandma bear so she could watch him play on the beach with grandma!  I mean seriously how cute is this?

Swimming!  I have learned that I’m not going to be able to take three children to the pool by myself this summer because Riley does NOT understand that someone needs to hold him and that he can’t just jump into the water without someone there to catch him.  He brings new meaning to the phrase “no fear”.

P1000425

We did have one PERFECT beach day!

P1000433 P1000430

Todd and I got a date night, early bird style!  We literally went to dinner at 5pm!  But we also got to see a movie and were home by 930!  ha!  Todd thought it would be hilarious to take my pic (at 34 weeks!) with the giant pelican.  Whose belly is bigger?

P1000439 - Copy

And birds!  Lots and lots of birds!

P1000446

We spent every day digging in the sand.  One day we dug a hole to China.  And yes, most days Finn played on the beach in his pajamas.  Don’t judge, you’re just jealous.  ;)

P1000451

One very rainy day we rented a movie, Marmaduke, and snuggled up inside.

And the boys first ever adventure mini-golfing….around a pirate ship!!!  Grandma was the big winner, she had like 3 hole in ones!  She might have had more if Riley had not had a major meltdown on the 15th hole.

The Birthday Boys!

Happy Birthday to my Boo and my Roo!

164875_10150129576492082_596687081_7665722_7661771_n

Grandma and Papa were in town and we invited Uncle Buzz over for dinner and deserts for the birthday boys!  And presents!  To say that Riley totally gets the concept of presents now, is an understatement.

My presents?!?!?!

P1000367

Finn just could not contain himself either!  He has figured out that presents for Riley = new toys for Finn too!  As you can see, it was all about the wheels!  Tractor, CAT front loader and Chuck trucks/track!  (please ignore Finn’s way too small pajamas that he will not let me put away, ha!)

Riley was so in love with his new toys he wouldn’t let go when it was time to get in the bath, brush his teeth and jammies.  We did let him take one little truck to bed with him.
