Camping

Despite having croup, daddy took Finn hiking and camping two days later!  Ha!  They had this whole trip planned with Uncle Buzz and our friends Chad and McKenna.  But when Finn came down with croup, Chad/McKenna had to back out from the festivities.  But, since Finn hadn’t had any coughing fits at all since coming home from the ER he was OK to go.  Todd took his “baby backpack” just in case Finn got tired and needed a ride.  It sounds like they had a super great trip, and Finn’s face in these photos is just priceless.  He still keeps talking about this trip!  Next year Riley can go along too, instead of being stuck at home shopping with mom!

On the way to the campsite, they stopped off for some BBQ!

Croup

Thursday September 16th, I pick Finn up from school and he has a clear runny nose.  By the time we put him to bed it was a yellow major snot-down.  But no fever, no cough, nothing.  We sucked and sprayed his nose and put him to bed.  Two hours later we heard a noise come from his room that made both Todd and I jump up off the couch and go running into his room.  He sounded like a barking seal, it was the most awful sound I have ever heard!  We sucked/sprayed his nose again, put him back to bed and I called the doctor.  When they called back they asked a series of questions and then had me go in to listen/watch him breathing and they determined he probably had croup and that we needed to put him in the bathroom and run the steam for 10 minutes and then off to the ER.  I had been so sick all day/night so Todd insisted that he take him to the ER while I stayed home with Riley and got some rest.  Um, hello?  Rest?  ER is mommy duty, mommy is getting no rest while he baby is off to the ER sounding like a seal!  They left the house at 11pm and Todd reminded me to set the house alarm after they left.  Well, I am a dumbass and I set it to the “we’re all tucked in safe and sound inside the house, so if someone opens our door all hell is going to break loose” mode, so when they walked in the door at 1:15am….the siren sounded, loud!!!  Scared the bejeesus out of me.  Turns out Finn had croup, so they gave him a steroid shot and sent him home.  There isn’t any treatment for croup because it is a virus.  By the next day he was TIRED but he was much better.  Craziness.

Just the beginning….

The boys have a new skill….they can now make fake vomitting noises.

Mommy has been sick-as-a-dog.  And since I’m with them all day long, they unfortunately are audience to my time praying to the porcelain gods.  The other day they were eating lunch and I was in the bathroom getting sick and I hear Finn in the kitchen, at the table, making fake vomit noises.  Later that day, Riley came right over to me at the toilet, started coughing and spitting into the toilet.

awesome.

I know this is just the beginning to the awesome noises that boys make.  As my doctor said “soon they’ll be sticking their hands under their arms making fart sounds”.  hahahahahaha

The delivery man cometh

I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned, but the super duper cute teeny sized backpack we bought for Finn in Belize was too small to carry his normal person sized folder that needs to go to school with him every day he goes.  Which meant we needed to get a new backpack.  In the mean time we were stuffing the folder into the little backpack and making it look like this:

In a failed attempt to find small person backpacks in-store, we purchased one on-line from recommendations from my mommy friends.  I mentioned to Finn (a week ago when I ordered it) that we bought him a new backpack and that the mailman would be bringing it.  Not a word has been mentioned about it since then.

Today we are getting ready to leave the house to go to the playground and Finn goes over by the door to get his shoes, when I hear a delivery truck stop in front of our house.  Finn stops in his tracks (which is crouched down on the floor in front of the door picking up his shoes) and says “hold on a minute mom, my new backpack is here!!!!!”  he starts jumping up and down with joy!  So I run over and open up the door and he runs out to greet the UPS man in the yard to get his backpack, rips open the bag and immediately puts on the backpack shouting “I love it momma, I love it!”.

“And, the little backpack is for grandma (bear) to wear to school, because she is little.”

how could you not love this boy?

(please note grandma bear does not go to school with him, but she is in the car waiting for him when I pick him up from school!)

Water Balloons

The Farmers Market was having a summer sizzlin party and had a dunk tank where you could come and dunk your neighbors and a “water balloon toss” for the kids.  Mostly the kids just threw them on the ground as fast as I could fill them with water.

Riley got in on the action too!

The Time-Out Boys

So Finn was in time-out for hitting Riley, Riley walked right over to him sitting there and hit Finn in the head, so I put Riley in time-out.  They both just sat their right next to each other, quietly, SO cute.  So I went to grab my camera, which yes, technically I shouldn’t be taking pictures of them in time-out but it was that cute.  But as I walked over I got this picture instead and it just cracks me up!

Riley was starting to stand-up, out of time-out, but it just looks funny to me.  love these boys.

Potty Training Complete!

YAY!  Finn is such a big boy!  He hasn’t had an accident in a long time and doesn’t need any help at all to go potty (although sometimes he does put his shorts/underwear on backwards if he takes them all the way off)!  He’s been wearing a diaper only at night and it has been dry in the morning for the last two weeks, so we put him in big boy underwear at bedtime last night and he was dry this morning!!!!  YAY!  SO proud of our big boy Finn!!!
