Finn’s 5 Year Stats!
FIVE! Finn is FIVE! I can’t believe it! Although I am pretty excited to finally say he is five. Every time someone asks me how old he is they are always so shocked since he is so tall, so I’m excited to finally be able to say FIVE! Woohooo!
I’m not going to lie, this year was kind of a tough year. Some parents refer to it as the “effing fours”. I think with Finn we dodged the terrible two’s, and even three’s. But four hit us pretty hard and I completely get why they call it the “effing fours”.
That being said, he still is the sweetest most gentle soul. I get comments about what a sweet caring boy he is all of the time. And he truly is. We rounded the corner of the bad stuff in January and now I am his best friend. It makes my heart soar! He loves spending time with me, and holding my hand, and snuggling with me. We have some of the best conversations, he is so smart, inquisitive, imaginative, clever and funny!
He starts Kindergarten in 2 weeks!
I took him to the doctor the day after his birthday and attempted to get the annual picture from him….this is what I got instead…
No shots this year! Yay! No more until he is 11, which is awesome after last year’s debacle…..last year he got 3 shots and was told they were the last ones until he turned 11. Then the next day they called us to say there was a terrible mix-up and he was accidentally given an expired vaccine and we had to go back for him to get it again. Nice. Thankfully he was a rock star, but he kept asking over and over again “no shots this year, right?” poor little man! His hearing and vision tests were great, he’s gained 6 pounds and grew 3 inches this last year!
Happy Birthday Finn! We love you more than anything in the world!

Good-bye Training Wheels!
Today we are doubly proud! Finn AND Riley said good-bye to training wheels this morning! Since Finn is about to turn 5, we knew it was time for him to take off the training wheels!!! The training wheels on Riley’s bike have been pretty broken for a while. We replaced one with an expensive set and it broke off after the 4th of July parade. :( So we decided to just try with Riley’s bike first, figured it was smaller maybe it would be better/easier for Finn too.
All the little mechanics taking off the wheels!
The last remaining Lightening McQueen training wheel.
And away he goes!
His very first start in the grass before he even got to the sidewalk
He is still getting the hang of getting started but he got much better by the time we were done. We also eventually took the TW’s off his bike which was more his size which helped. But here’s a few early videos…
I love Riley cruising past him on the scooter and Kellen wobbling around with the pliers.
As I mentioned, the training wheels on Riley’s bike had been pretty broken for a while and we noticed that he wasn’t actually using them most of the time so we decided to give Riley a try! And here is what he did the first time he sat down on the bike without training wheels!
Finn starting by himself and Riley cheering him on!
After we took them off Finn’s bike too and here are both big boys riding!

4th of July 2012
The Pied Piper Parade was back on this year! Though right as the parade was to start the clouds got dark and ominous and the wind picked up and there was a few small rain drops but then it all stopped as quickly as it came and we had a nice breezy cloud covered parade! The bigs both rode their bikes and we pushed Kellen in his little car! The boys had so much FUN decorating their bikes this year!
All ready to go!
Uncle Sam
And away they go!
Big Pimpin’
And we actually saw Siena and Zoe along the way!
Rollin’
And a blueberry lemonade popsicle for the sweaty baby!
Big surprise, we let the big boys stay up for the fireworks! Riley didn’t make it and I had to take him home, but Finn stayed up all night! The square got more and more packed as the night got darker!
So anxious!
Me and my Finn! He LOVED the fireworks and sat here in my lap for almost the entire thing.
But towards the end he popped up and I got this adorable picture of him with his balloon and the fireworks!
Happy 4th of July!!!!!
Go Cubs!
Every year the Cubs come to town and I think “damn, why didn’t I figure this out sooner and get tickets and a babysitter?”. Well, now that I have purchased a bunch of group tickets on several occasions, they email/call alot for games. This year I finally put it together and decided early on that we should get a grown-up outing to go to the Cubs game the week of July 4th….and we did!!! It was alot of FUN, maybe a little too much FUN for mommy. The Cubs did lose though. sad panda. But there were fireworks! Yay!
And a picture of Buzz holding my purse while he took the above picture. mwuahahahahahahahaha
Cleaning
Kellen is terrified of the vacuum. Usually I get it done on the weekend when daddy can play with the boys OR I will put the bigs in charge of playing with Kellen and distracting him while I vacuum. But they were at camp and I needed to clean, so this is how I got it done!
Clicking
Kellen has done this little tongue click since he was a baby, I finally just caught it on video. He will always point to my mouth to make me do it and it always makes him smile and he mimics it. Though in this video he was “all done” and wanted out of his seat.
Oatmeal
Every now and then Kellen grabs for the spoon to feed himself, but he typically eats the food and then hands me back the spoon. And I never really thought about it until I was going back through the blog and realized that by this same age Riley was starting to feed himself. So I handed over the spoon and the bowl. At first he was totally feeding himself so I jumped up to get the camera. This is what I came back to 15 seconds later.
