Seabrook Island Part 2: The life vest

Reg and Todd took Maggie and Finn kayaking one morning.  While trying to find a life vest that fit Finn….we ended up with this…..and we seriously could not stop laughing…..

Seabrook Island Part 1: The Farm

We went to the cutest little Farm/Farmers Market on Seabrook Island.  It was adorable with horses, bunnies, roosters, goats and cows to pet!

Riley is fearless with everything, he couldn’t wait to pet the horse!

More to come…..

Couch Potato

You know, we didn’t let Finn watch TV until Riley was born.  Which means, Riley was not subjected to this rule.  He’s a bit of a couch potato…..

Popsicles

Seriously, watching Riley eat a popsicle is quite possibly the funniest thing ever to watch.

Finn’s first day of school!

Oh my!

We signed Finn up to do two mornings a week at a parents morning out program at a nearby Presbyterian church school.  Last fall/winter I went around and checked out a bunch of programs and this one, just had that feeling.  It made me feel warm and fuzzy and was just the perfect place for Finn.  Our application was accepted (yes, accepted, crazy!) and we’ve just been waiting for the school year to begin!

On Monday night mommy and daddy went to the school for a parent orientation where daddy finally got to see the school and we got the meet the teacher and some of the other parents of kids in Finn’s class.  Tuesday morning I took Finn in so he could check out his classroom and meet his teacher.  It didn’t go very well, he was excited to go to school, ran into the school, ran up the steps and down the hall and then put on the brakes and became Mr. Shy when we got to the classroom and wouldn’t go in.  I had to eventually carry him in and then hold his hand while he checked things out until he was ready to let go and play on his own.  He still wouldn’t talk to either of the teachers though before we left.

So I was a little nervous about drop-off this morning.  They do a carpool drop-off where we pull up and they pull him out of the car and take him inside and I drive away.  But the little guy surprised me.  He was just so excited and he went with the teacher without any trouble at all!  I did get a little teary once I pulled up to the spot to let him out, but I made sure he didn’t see and put on my big happy face, until I drove away and cried just a little.

Riley at 18 months!

I can’t even believe he is 18 months old!  You’ve got to be kidding me!  Its funny when I look back and think, Riley was just about to be born when Finn was 18 months old!  CRAZY!  At the time I remember thinking Finn was such a big boy, but now I look at Riley and still think he is just a BABY!

And because I’m a big nerd, here’s the updated growth chart:

Age Weight % Height % Head %

Riley

Hugs and Kisses – If you ask Riley for a hug he will give you a two arm wrapped around the neck hug and squeeze.  And if you ask him for a kiss (or as I like to say “kiss kiss”) he will give you a big smoocher!

He is such a big boy now, he will walk while holding your hand.  The other day I was holding both boys hands while we were walking down the sidewalk.  I about cried, it was so sweet!

He’s getting more and more words every day!  He’s got lots and I definitely can’t capture them all, but some are:  yes, no, bye-bye with a wave, ball, daddy, doggie, Papa, cheese, please, more, snack, all done, uh-oh, two, book.  He’s also doing the signs for more, milk, all done, I’m sorry, thank you and help.

He LOVES his blankie!

He loves the playground and can climb/slide on everything by himself, he even has learned to walk UP the slide like big brother.  yay.  (sarcasm.)

He LOVES books!  He brings me books and climbs into my lap all day every day and it is just too stinking cute!

He still sucks his thumb.  Its cute, but I’m not gonna lie, two of his teeth are a little jacked up.

He’s still a fickle eater.  but he’s a good napper/sleeper.

he is all about feeding himself these days.  he makes a ridiculous mess, but he’s gotta learn right?

He also helps put his dishes in the sink when he is done!  He did this all on his own, picked it up from watching Finn do it.  I.die.

He loves to antagonize Finn when Finn is in time-out.  This isn’t supposed to be funny, but we can’t help but laugh.

He can point to his eyes, ears, nose and mouth!

He LOVES to dance.  We’ve been doing a lot of afternoon dance party since it has been so freaking hot here and I just can’t muster up the energy to go anywhere.  He has always loved to shake his booty, but dance party is a whole other level for him!

Strep

So when we took Finn in for his 3yr checkup they mentioned he had a double ear infection, so we started a round of antibiotics.  9 days later Finn says his tummy hurts and he has a fever….head back into the doctor….he has strep.  Turns out that a “hurt tummy” is a symptom of strep!  No clue.  And we felt even worse because he had mentioned his tummy hurt a day or two before.  So a new round of stronger antibiotic is started.  And our isolation begins with a Cars movie viewing…..with all of Finn’s friends.

Chubby cheeks and eyelashes

I just love this face.  I love his chubby cheeks, his round button nose, his big puffy lips and his long eyelashes.  I love to watch him inspect/explore/study something.  I love this angle of his face.  I love this boy.

I wish I knew how to take a decent photo, but this is the best I got out of the 25 I took.

How fitting is his name?

I’ve said this before, he is the next Michael Phelps.  Mr.  Finn had “swim lessons” when he was 17 months old, and I use that term loosely.  But this summer he just started swimming, all on his own.  He jumps in, keeps his head under water and starts pumping his arms and legs.  I am amazed.  And proud.  What a big brave boy I have!

And this one because I think he’s cute how he’s trying to find me!

And these pics a friend took at a birthday party….

Gecko’s!

The Fernbank Museum is having an awesome exhibit with Gecko’s right now.  After our experience with frogs I don’t know why I thought this was a good idea, but I evidently have short-term memory.  Suffice it to say, this visit did not go well, at least in the Gecko exhibit portion where Finn was SCREAMING to leave.

A very bad picture of a gecko

I took this picture AFTER we left the exhibit and notice that Finn is clinging to the stroller.

We recovered by blowing giant bubbles.
