The Thumb

Riley has reached a HUGE milestone….he is no longer a thumb sucker!!!

Remember this adorable post when he was just 3 months old?  And the million other pictures I’ve posted with his thumb in his mouth?  All done!

I took both boys to the dentist about 2 months ago and she said that Riley needed to stop sucking his thumb immediately.  Not only was it effecting his teeth, but since he was a “side sucker” it was also effecting his palate, the whole roof of his mouth was being distorted. 

By that time I had noticed he really only did it when he had his blankie.  So, we took away his blankie and massive bedtime failures ensued.  We eventually bought this product called Thumb that you put on the thumb that tastes AWFUL (like spicy acid) and gave him back his blankie.  That seemed to do the trick (for the thumb, not the bedtime failures)!

So yay for Riley!!!  I can already tell a difference in his teeth!
