Kid-Free Grownups Acting Like Kids

We sent the boys up to grandma and papa’s house for a kid-free weekend, and we acted like a couple of kids!

Friday night I went to book club and Todd went out with the guys.  Saturday morning we got up and hit one of our favorite breakfast spots that we don’t ever get to go to anymore…

And then we took breakfast to our dear friends who just had their baby and we squeezed their baby!IMG_0969

And then we went to a movie.  In the middle of the day.

And then we took a nap and went out for the night to celebrate our friend Jeff’s 50th birthday!

We went to the Porter, where we had a private room in their awesome cellar.  I wish we had pictures of that room because it was so cool!

Then we headed to Variety Playhouse to see the Elvis Royale Show!

Yes, that is a mini-Elvis.

And the next day, we actually slept in until 9:30am!  Amazing!

Thank you Grandma and Papa!!!!

So, this is new….

IMG_0962

We’ve talked about getting a bike trailer for a bit, basically ever since our first ride on the belt line, but we hadn’t pulled the trigger.  And then one day I just suddenly got a bug that I needed one, and I needed one ASAP.  I wanted to be able to ride Kellen to school in it like so many other people I had seen do it.  Also, it would help me be able to keep up with the bigs when they ride to school!  So I bought one.  But then wasn’t able to try it out until we got everyone healthy.  One beautiful day without any plans and I finally put it together and away we went!  It was a rocky ride and I’m not entirely sure if Kellen likes this thing or not….well to be honest, he doesn’t.  At times he is squeeling and saying YAY and Woohoo and other times he is screaming.  So I’m really confused.  Not sure what he does or does not like.  But this week I can give riding to school a try!

Confession

I almost left Baby Kellen at home.

IMG_0957

So, first of all, Kellen likes to sleep and his bedroom is tucked in the back of the house so it is easy for him to sleep in.  I typically grab him after I get the bigs and all their stuff in to the car for school just so he can get as much sleep as possible.  (And it is easier to just throw his half-asleep self in to the car immediately rather than having to have him sit around and want to be snuggled while trying to get everything in the car.)

So the Monday morning of the second week of school, Riley wakes up with a raging fever and is sobbing that his throat hurts.  Rut Ro.  Finn feels fine.  So I get breakfast started, clothes pulled out and everybody’s stuff gathered and then I call the pediatrician right when they open at 730 to make a sick visit and I’m in luck I can get one basically as soon as I can get there.  So now I’m trying to pack everything up, running around, Riley is miserable so that is distracting…..and as we’re buckled in and I put the car in reverse, Finn says “what about baby kellen?”.  ZOMG!!!!

So there he is, shoeless, in his jammies and still in his night time diaper, but there he is.  With us!  At the doctors office.  :)  In the end we all got strep, including me.  :(  Finn technically did not test positive but he had a fever for 2 days and said his stomach hurt which is his strep symptom.  So our week looked like this.

The Curious Incident of the Lamp In The Naptime

So, I walked in after naptime to find Kellen sitting on his bed that looked like this…

IMG_0921

That is a light bulb from the lamp….that he had completely unscrewed from the lamp….and then somehow crushed in to a million pieces….pieces that were EVERYWHERE in his room.  And he had not a single scratch on him.

HOW?????

I mean, I am so grateful that he had not bled to death, but I’m just so confused by the whole thing.

We’ve had lamps in the boys rooms since they were all born and this definitely a first.

Brothers

So I took the boys over to Aunt Tay Tay’s new apartment after school one day so they could check it out and get a chance to see Aunt Tay Tay and play with her dog Max.  As we’re sitting their talking, we turn around and find this.

He was seriously so happy in there though that he did not want to come out.  But the brothers wanted a turn.  So Finn started making his way in.  At first Kellen thought this was FUN.

Until it wasn’t.

So he did eventually get out and let Finn have a turn.

And Riley got a turn too.

Seriously.  This happened.

Back to School!!!

The Friday before school started, we went to the school for Open House where we learned who the boys had for teachers and got to visit their class rooms!

IMG_0771 IMG_0772 IMG_0773

Riley has the same Pre-K teacher that Finn did, Mrs. Crosby!  And at Open House, they sent home a glitter star with this little poem:

A Back-to-School Star

Here’s a star; it’s really cool.  It will help you be ready and rested for school.  Just place the star near your bed, close to where you lay your head.  The star will help you sleep through the night.  You’ll wake up for school fresh and bright.  We’ll place the star near our beds, too.  We can’t wait for school when we will see you.

Precious!  Here is his little star.

The boys wrapped their lovies up together for a picture too!

And the attempt at getting a picture of the boys together at school.

After we dropped off Finn at his class room, we headed to Riley’s.

He found the R for Riley on his cubbie and put his stuff away.  Such a big boy!

IMG_0895 IMG_0896

As I was walking back up to the car, Riley’s class was doing their first line-up to go back inside from the playground.  And I stopped and took a couple of pictures.  And then Riley got to be the line leader back in to the class.  Oh my, you should have seen the pomp in his walk!  His head was high, his chest was puffed out, and he just marched them right in to the school!  It was AWESOME.  I am SO glad I got to witness that!

And when I got back to the car I found blankie and grandma bear waiting for me in the front seat.  This *ALMOST* made me cry.

And this little joker gets momma all to himself!

IMG_0898

Later that week as I was grabbing something Kellen had thrown in to the back seat, I noticed the special passenger I had been driving around.  {{{{heart melt into a puddle}}}}

Last Day of Summer Ice Cream

We had an amazing summer!  We checked off almost everything on our Summer Bucket List and we did a bunch of other really cool things that weren’t on the list.  For the most part the boys got along really well and I gave myself a break on some things in order to keep my sanity.  :)  So as one last hoorah, I took them to go grab some CFA ice cream.

Roller Skating – SBL

We BARELY got this one checked off the list.  I literally woke up on Monday morning and was like, we should do this and I immediately went about trying to find a sitter for Kellen.  And someone alerted me to a half off depot coupon so our skating was super cheap!  Everything fell together perfectly and so quickly and away we went!

A friend lent us her kid skates to use just in case and we also took our helmets with us.

Any roller skating rink called Sparkles in just awesome, no matter what is inside!

 IMG_0833

All geared up!  I got them regular skates when I got mine, but we decided to start with my friends kids skates first.  We did one lap around on the lowest setting, which basically was just like walking.  There seriously was no roll.  So then we did another lap on the third and final setting.  They still really didn’t roll and the boys wanted to roll!

 IMG_0835 IMG_0836

So we put on the regular skates.  Immediately fell down and off I went with my $10 to rent the most awesome contraption known to man.  PVC pipes on wheels.  This thing was AMAZING.

IMG_0837

They were zipping around in no time!

And of course this post would not be complete without videos!!!

Around and around we went!  They got better as the morning went on.  Riley completely surprised me.  He usually gets frustrated with things VERY easily and completely gives up, but every time he fell he had a huge grin on his face and pulled himself back up and kept trying.  It was unreal and amazing.  The place also had some video games of which we got tokens for in our half off depot, so when they were exhausted from the skating, we hit the games and headed home.  It was SO MUCH FUN!
