Riley Roo Turns Two!!!
To celebrate Riley’s 2nd Birthday, we threw him a dance party! This little man loves to boogie and I just thought it would be perfect! Originally we thought about hiring someone to come and entertain the kids, but once we looked around we realized that was pretty expensive, so Todd and I decided we would just have to make fools of ourselves and be the entertainment.
There really wasn’t much out there on the internet for ideas, so we had to get creative! I did find an invitation and coordinating paper party pack online that helped kick start the theme!
Everyone picked up their Backstage Passes upon entering the house!
We wanted to have some great music and have a dance party room. So we turned the nursery into the disco room, backstage passes required! We borrowed an awesome disco ball from a friend, I created a super FUN playlist, we hung a tinsel curtain and set out the colored foam play mats. The kids LOVED it! And so did the adults!
We decided we needed some musical instruments, so I collected a bunch of formula cans from my mommy friends, took off the labels, wrapped them in white construction paper, added a coordinating label to the top and bought a bunch of music related stickers and left out some crayons/markers for the kids to decorate. We also bought a bunch of dowel rods for the kids to use as drum sticks!
And we also had some maracas and glow sticks!
Next up….cupcakes! I decided I wanted to use colored icing this time, yes, I’m getting adventurous, ha! A friend suggested the gel kind of food coloring and so off I set. Holy moly what a mess! But I think the colors turned out awesome!
More decor
And Riley had a matching shirt for the day, here he is saying CHEEESE! as usual. who taught him this? how do I get it to stop? ha!
So, back to the entertainment…..literally the week before the party, I won a contest for a Music with Miss Tara Birthday Party Package! And she was able to actually come on such short notice to our party! How crazy is that? Yay! And…she was awesome! It was a big hit!
Cupcake time! Remember how Riley was super angry at the cupcake last year and would not touch it? Well this year he was super angry that he had to wait to get a cupcake! When I told him it was finally time for cupcake he shouted “YIPPEE”! ha!
and here is where more mess comes into play…..that food coloring….oh my….I would just like to apologize to all my friends for their discolored children! Here’s an example of blue and green! Notice Riley in orange in the pic above!
Here’s Riley decorating his drum!
And Finn and Riley decorating faces!
And the tinsel curtain? Yeah, that stayed up for maybe 30 minutes….maybe…
And once everyone left, we let Riley open presents! He totally gets the concept of presents for sure and was VERY excited to open presents!
Our awesome friend took some amazing pictures that I’m going to post in a separate post. All in all it was a super fun party!
Oh and here’s a video from the disco room!
My Roo
He has inherited my love for shoes, he plays in my shoes almost every day.
My love for the foamy finger and Finn’s love for the vacuum!
But he has developed his own love for hats!
I wish I had more pictures of him in hats, but he is always wearing a hat, even while just playing by himself in the house, he’ll pick one up, put it on and go about his business! He’s got foam construction and safari hats, baseball hats that he always wears backwards, bike helmets, his winter hat and he wore his Santa hat almost every day until I packed it away with our Christmas stuff! When we were driving to Indiana for Christmas we stopped at a McDonald’s for lunch, I got the boys happy meals that actually came in the box (most come in bags now) and sat down at the table and I took everything out of the box and sat the box down on the table. He picked it up and put it on his head and sat there eating his cheeseburger and apples! Every person that walked in the door couldn’t help but laugh. He kept that box on his head even when we got back into the car for the next hour while we drove! He’s so damn funny, he cracks me up!
